NanoACi cost in the UK explained

NanoACi brings together three of your own tissues in one appointment: your cartilage cells, prepared with the Mytocel MSK micrografting technique, a ChondroFiller collagen scaffold, and PRP prepared from your own blood on the day. Preparing and delivering all three in a single sequenced session is the work behind the price. There is no laboratory culture and nothing is grown over weeks, which is what keeps this a one-visit treatment rather than surgery.

At London Cartilage Clinic the protocol is performed by Professor Paul Lee. The price is for the session itself. The MRI and the consultation are separate appointments with their own fees, so you can see exactly what each step costs before you commit to treatment.

Why NanoACi at London Cartilage Clinic

  • Professor Lee’s own protocol

NanoACi is a technique Professor Paul Lee developed and performs. It is not a product or device bought off a shelf; it is his way of delivering your own cells, scaffold and PRP in one session, refined for each joint.
  • ICRS Teaching Centre of Excellence

London Cartilage Clinic is recognised by the International Cartilage Regeneration and Joint Preservation Society as a Teaching Centre of Excellence, with one of the largest published cartilage outcome databases in Europe.
  • A regenerate-first philosophy

NanoACi fits a philosophy that prefers preserving and regenerating your own joint over replacing it where assessment supports that aim. Advanced whole-joint wear can make replacement assessment more appropriate. Arthrosamid is not a routine add-on and needs a separate adult-knee indication.
  • One session, no theatre

The whole treatment is a single outpatient appointment of around thirty minutes under local anaesthetic. Most people return to light daily activity the same day.

Your NanoACi journey

  1. 1

    Discovery call (free, 30 minutes)

A clinical coordinator confirms whether NanoACi looks like the right treatment to investigate and answers cost questions.
  2. 2

    MRI and consultation

If you have had an MRI in the last six months, bring it. If not, we arrange your scan and consultation together, so Professor Lee can review your imaging and plan treatment in one visit.
  3. 3

    The NanoACi session

A single 30-minute outpatient appointment under local anaesthetic. No general anaesthetic and no theatre. Most patients go home the same day.
  4. 4

    First week

Rest the joint for the first week and keep the small ear donor site clean. Most people are back to light daily activity the same day.
  5. 5

    Follow-up

A follow-up appointment is arranged and charged separately. Improvement usually starts between two and six weeks.

Funding, insurance and payment

Self-pay

£6,000 for the session, settled by bank transfer or card before treatment. MRI and consultation are charged separately.

We can discuss finance options on request. We do not actively promote a specific finance partner.

Private medical insurance

London Cartilage Clinic is a private-pay practice and does not work with UK insurance panels. NanoACi is not routinely available on the NHS or via the major UK insurers.

We can provide an itemised invoice for you to submit to your insurer if you wish to claim the treatment back; the agreement is between you and your insurer.

International patients

Patients travel from outside the UK for NanoACi. We can coordinate the MRI, consultation and session into a focused visit; travel and accommodation are arranged separately.

Outcomes after NanoACi

NanoACi is a regenerative protocol, not an immediate symptom-relief injection. Most patients notice less pain and stiffness between two and six weeks. In studies of the auricular micrografting technology behind the Mytocel MSK step, benefit has been reported to last at least three years from a single session. Those figures describe the technology, not London Cartilage Clinic’s own case numbers.

Professor Lee will explain, in writing at consultation, what the evidence does and does not yet show for your particular joint. As with any newer combination, the strongest evidence sits with each component, and outcomes for the protocol are reviewed case by case.

Patient stories

I wanted to avoid surgery if I possibly could. The injection took half an hour and I walked out the same afternoon. A few weeks on, the joint feels calmer than it has in years.

Frequently asked questions

How much does NanoACi cost in the UK?

NanoACi at London Cartilage Clinic is £6,000 for the session. MRI and consultation are charged separately. The same pricing applies across the knee, hip, shoulder and ankle.

What does the price cover?

The £6,000 figure covers the single-session NanoACi injection: the preparation of your own cells and PRP, the ChondroFiller scaffold, the ultrasound-guided delivery and on-the-day medications. MRI, consultation, follow-up appointments and onward physiotherapy are charged separately.

Do I need to pay for an MRI on top?

Yes, the MRI and the consultation are charged separately. If you have had an MRI in the last six months, bring it and you may not need another. If not, we arrange the scan together with your consultation.

Is NanoACi covered by insurance or the NHS?

London Cartilage Clinic is a private-pay practice and does not contract with UK insurance panels. NanoACi is not routinely available on the NHS. We can provide an itemised invoice if you wish to submit a claim independently.

I have been told I am bone-on-bone. Will it cost more?

Advanced wear needs examination and imaging because a restorative injection may be less predictable and replacement assessment may be more appropriate. Arthrosamid is quoted separately only when symptomatic adult knee osteoarthritis provides its own clinical rationale; it is not an automatic extra cost.

Can I pay in instalments?

We can discuss finance options on request rather than promoting a specific provider. The treatment is also straightforward to settle by bank transfer or card before the session.

Is the clinician I see at consultation the same one who treats me?

Yes. Professor Paul Lee reviews your imaging at consultation and performs the NanoACi session himself. There is no transfer to a less experienced clinician.
